Up to and including infinity.
The world seems to be moving more quickly than ever. Smartphones are getting smarter every day, artificial intelligence is getting wiser, and our environment seems to be getting worse every year.
What would the world be like if you travelled 50 years into the future?
Would robots have taken over everything?
Would we be surviving on Earth today?
Would we eventually find evidence of alien life?
Here’s what would happen if you lived 50 years into the future.
View your phone on the ground. Consider the advancements in technology over the past ten years. Have you ever considered what technology might resemble in 50 years?
How are your loved ones and friends? What will become of them?
We might genuinely chuckle at how we had to hold our phones in fifty years from now. How archaic! Instead, we will either wear our smartphones or have them implanted through contact lenses. Instead of needing to look down at your phone, consider having your GPS integrated into your eyesight.
If you don’t want to fast-forward yourself to the future because you’re worried that your family might not be around, you can rest easy, knowing that in 50 years, the average life expectancy will be about 80 – 90 years. That’s over 10 years longer than what it is today.
Although everything seems wonderful, there will also be issues.
Our population percentages have consistently resembled a pyramid since the 1960s. However, that pyramid will resemble a rectangle after 50 years. As a result, there will be an equal number of seniors and toddlers.
The economy will be greatly affected by this. Grandma and Grandpa will retire much later, and their homes will be crowded when they do. Jobs will be more difficult to come by as more individuals join the workforce.
A recent graduate? Expect to spend a little longer living at home with your parents. Particularly considering that by 2030, AI is predicted to be performing over 800 million of our former occupations.
The population of the planet will be at an all-time high. The population of the Earth will be staggeringly high by this point—9 billion people.
More issues arise as the population grows. As we endeavour to cultivate enough crops to feed everyone, the likelihood of food shortages will increase significantly. With rising temperatures, crops will be more challenging to cultivate. In addition, with 70% of the world's population residing in cities, crowded conditions will hasten the spread of disease.
The environment doesn't seem to be in great shape either. Deforestation in the Amazon rainforest will continue, and in 50 years, half of it will be gone. You shouldn't anticipate it to return either because accelerating climate change will turn it into an arid shrubland.
More than half of the current thickness of the polar ice caps will melt as a result of rising temperatures. Additionally, because its water will keep evaporating, the Dead Sea might actually live up to its name.
Consider travelling to places like Houston, Miami, and New Orleans. You're out of luck, I'm sorry. In the next 50 years, hurricanes will become much more frequent and destructive, and increased sea levels will force us to depart the Gulf Coast.
But relax, not everything is horrible. Even though the Earth might be ending, mankind will still need to live somewhere.
Humans will have started colonising Mars within the next 50 years. Even private companies will try to reach the Alpha Centauri star system, which is the nearest one to our solar system. We'll stop by the Proxima-centauri B planet while we're there, which has a good chance of harbouring alien life. It might be a place where humans could colonise if we don't find any little green men.
So, we’ve talked about the human race, and the environment, but what about you? How are things going to be with you in 50 years?
To start with, you won't need to visit the doctor for your yearly checkup. You will have a tool to check for diseases on your own. Keep an eye out for a spike in popularity of body alteration. And we're not referring to piercings or tattoos. Cybernetic eyes, for example, will let you see better and detect radiation and other things that are currently invisible to us.
You could even have a fancy baby if your Bitcoin investment became very successful and made you wealthy. These infants are entirely customizable, including their behaviour and IQ in addition to their appearance.
AI will match human intelligence. Although they won't have yet conquered the globe, they will be well on their way. The intelligence of artificial intelligence (AI) will continue to advance, and it will eventually surpass human intelligence.
While people play more advanced roles in our employment, we may expect them to collaborate with us.
So, are you prepared for both the good and the bad that lies ahead? If not, no problem! Simply live in the now and gradually adjust to it over the following 50 years.
Who knows, maybe we won't even discuss fictitious events in the future.
